Cinematography masterclass with Ashley Connor and Catherine Lutes: Lockdown Film School #2

In our second Lockdown Film School, Ashley Connor and Catherine Lutes give a masterclass on cinematography.

Who is Ashley Connor?

Ashley Connor is probably best known from her 2018 work when she worked with with experimental filmmaker Josephine Decker on Madeline’s Madeline and Desiree Akhavan on The Miseducation of Cameron Post. Connor has worked with Decker since 2012’s Me the Terrible. She has collaborated with a diverse range of exciting filmmakers, including Penny Lane (The Voyagers), Zia Anger (My Last Film), Dustin Guy Defa (Person to Person), and Daniel Scheinert (The Death of Dick Long). Connor’s credits also include the TV show Broad City and music videos with artists Jenny Lewis and Angel Olsen.

Who is Catherine Lutes?

Catherine Lutes is one of the Canadian film industry’s most exciting cinematographers. She shot several of the best Canadian films of recent years, including Mouthpiece (which Seventh Row named the third best film of the 2010s) and Firecrackers. Recently, she worked with Albert Shin on The Disappearance at Clifton Hill, which premiered at TIFF in 2019 and is now on VOD in Canada and hte US. Lutes’s most high profile work to date is on the Netflix series Anne with an E. Her work on Mouthpiece and Firecrackers is discussed in Seventh Row’s ebook, The 2019 Canadian Cinema Yearbook.
