21st Folio, our Shakespeare podcast, returns with a two part discussion of Jonathan Pryce’s King Lear. Listen to the full episodes here. Listen to more 21st Folio here.
After a long hiatus, the 21st Folio podcast is back!
The 21st Folio is a bi-weekly podcast about modern Shakespeare productions of stage and screen. Each episode explores one or more productions — film adaptations, recorded theatre productions, and everything in between — and how it changes the way we look at Shakespeare’s text. We also explore issues related to adapting Shakespeare for the screen, how best to capture live theatre productions for posterity, and more.
New episodes are released on Mondays, and most discussions have been divided into two parts (which you can listen to on consecutive Mondays).
This week, you can listen to part one of our discussion on the Almeida Theatre’s 2012 production of King Lear starring Jonathan Pryce and directed by Michael Attenborough. The production was recorded over two nights, and is now streaming on Digital Theatre, where it is available for rent or to watch as a subscriber.
Ep. 19 (Part 1): Interpreting the text
Ep. 20 (Part 2): Staging and filming the production, target audience
